Serifina and the Black Cloak is the first in a 4-book series of heart-racing, jaw-dropping, fast-paced stories by best-selling author Robert Beatty. The story is set in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, at the famous Biltmore Mansion near Asheville. The series includes real-life Vanderbilt characters and additional fictional characters such as Serafina.
This is a great story with a suspenseful plot and characters that are to die for. Tweens and teens will fall in love with the 12-year-old heroine as she learns to find her way into a big fancy world and come out of hiding. She finds friendship in the Vanderbilts' nephew, Braeden, who has come to live with them at Biltmore after the tragic death of his family.
This book series has violence. There are multiple battles throughout the books that include blood, severe injuries, and death. There are also multiple mentions of murder. if you don't want your child reading this, or if they are a little jittery when it comes to all that, I suggest you wait to get this book until they are at least twelve. I read this when I was nine, and I was okay with it, but every child is different and has a different level of maturity. Check with your child to see how comfortable they are with this before proceeding to purchase the books.
